How is Molybdenum used in Various Industries?

Lustrous molybdenum plate is dark brown, and it will appear silver-gray metallic luster after alkaline cleaning. After rolling, the density of molybdenum plate is close to the theoretical density of molybdenum, so it has high strength, uniform internal structure and excellent creep resistance to high temperature. Molybdenum plate is widely used in the production of sapphire crystal growth furnace reflector, cover plate, vacuum furnace reflector, hair tropics, connector, sputtering target for plasma coating, high-temperature resistant boat, etc.

Iron and steel industry

Molybdenum is mainly used in the steel industry, most of which are directly used in steelmaking or cast iron after industrial molybdenum oxide compaction, and a few of them are used in steelmaking after smelting into molybdenum iron. The content of molybdenum in low alloy steels is no more than 1%, but the consumption of this aspect accounts for about 50% of the total consumption of molybdenum. Molybdenum can be added to stainless steel to improve its corrosion resistance. Adding molybdenum into cast iron can improve its strength and wear resistance.

Aerospace industry

Nickel based superalloys containing 18% molybdenum have high melting point, low density and low thermal expansion coefficient, which are used in the manufacture of various high-temperature components in aviation and aerospace. Molybdenum disulfide is an important lubricant used in the aerospace and mechanical industries.

Electron industry

Molybdenum is widely used in electron devices such as electron tubes, transistors and rectifiers.

Chemical industry

Molybdenum oxide and molybdate are excellent catalysts in chemical and petroleum industries.

Catalytic industry

Due to its unique sulfur resistance, molybdenum disulfide can catalyze carbon monoxide hydrogenation to produce alcohol under certain conditions, and it is a promising chemical catalyst C1.

Agriculture

Molybdenum is one of the essential micronutrients in plants, and it is used as micronutrient fertilizer in agriculture.

Pharmaceutical industry

Molybdenum is a component of many enzymes, the deficiency of molybdenum can lead to dental caries, renal calculi, keshan disease, kaschin-beck disease, esophageal cancer and other diseases. Ammonium molybdate is mainly used in patients with long-term high-nutrition veins.
